EXCITING NEW LINE UP NEWS!!!!!!

What do you get when you take alternapop and then throw in spiraling harmonies, psychedelia, prog, gothpunk, tango, gypsy jazz, world beats, eastern European rhythms, soundtrack music, and twisted takes on covers?

As the name implies, these seasoned local musicians take a variety of sounds and MELT them together... well no death metal (yet).

They don’t sound anything like Fleetwood Mac, but their evolution has some weird parallels. Three men.  One on guitar, bass and drums.  Two women singing harmonies.  One on keys, the other on guitar.  The original members/keepers of the flame are the rhythm section.  The band evolved with the addition of the three new talented people and new twin, harmony rich vocals.  But enough with coincidences….

The mashup of feels idea came to bassist Paul Pipitone who had played in a few local Boston bands previously.  During these years, he noticed some local bands concentrated on developing a sound.  He wanted varying styles, tempos and dynamics within the individual songs.

He found a like-minded drummer in John Kokas, who had done his time playing in local Boston bands himself. They shared several bills together, as well as a love for multi-layered arrangements with huge dynamics and variety.  They also had a shared love for Queen as a band that pulled off variety right and they both cite the Queen II album as a favorite.

Lead guitarist Bill Hekking was recently found via networking with other musicians.  He was highly recommended as someone who might be “just right” and he was.  He fit right in away personally and musically and had the style/chops to master everything quickly.

The most exciting thing that has happened is the recent additional of two charismatic and powerhouse vocalists, both respected members of the Boston scene as well.  Kat Hastings (vocals, keyboards) and Keren Athena (vocals, guitar).

The band met both of them on shared bills.  Kat also sings in an acoustic cover band.   Keren does open mics night and guests with other bands casually.   Both were interested in the vocal spot in Melt.  Melt wanted both of them as well.   How to address….let’s see if they go for working together.  They clicked and started developing their rich harmonies on their very first meeting given their previous schooling in harmonic structure.  Everyone went home that night excited for the future.

This  plus the additional gtr, keys and woodwinds will only push the boundaries of their sounds out even further and the band can't wait to see what happens next.
